Sao Domingos: So Agua

This week I had one of the first moments where we were sitting in a lesson and I really did not know what to say. We were at a part-member family house and the two things I had planned to talk about were just not going to work in this situation. After some awkward moments of silence and stumbling through a message I finally ended up on the message of the atonement. This week with Christmas we have been talking a lot about Christ and as a result the atonement, or sacrifice that he did for us. I am so grateful for this blessing in my life, and even though it was quite awkward in the beginning, I hope in the end that this message was able to touch their hearts. In the moment, I was really trusting in the Lord to fill my mouth with the words I needed to say, and eventually I got there.

This week we had a zone conference, and so we left early Tuesday morning to walk to the train station. We are ten minutes from the station when it starts sprinkling. No problem right? We just got out umbrellas and thought everything would be fine...... Well five seconds later it started pouring down rain, and the wind picked up really fast. When we finally made it to the station we were completely soaked!! I squeezed out the water from the bottom of my dress leaving puddles on the floor as a result! But eventually we arrived at the Chapel safely and had a great meeting! I am grateful for my companion who reminded me to bring my umbrella that morning!

We took our friend Mauricio to the temple visitor center on Friday, and then on Saturday he was baptized! It is crazy to see his transformation in just a few short weeks. Mauricio is a friend we met in the street 3 or 4 weeks ago and he is elect. At the visitor center he was so excited as we talked about doing the baptisms for the dead, and at his baptism I almost cried when he came out of the water the spirit was so strong. He was asked to bear his testimony in the sacrament meeting and I just felt like a proud parent to see how far he has come and how much he has grown! (Also got to see Irmã Bueno again and the temple! What a trea!!)

We had a really busy week talking to people in the streets, lessons falling through, other lessons being really good, trying to work more with the members and lots of other good things. Through it all I have been able to see the hand of the Lord in my life, and I know that this truly is His work! I am so grateful that I have a chance to be a part of it.

The last interesting thing that happened this week is we met a man in the street on Saturday and invited him to church on Sunday and he came. We went around the chapel and explained everything to him and we also invited him to come back for the Baptism of a child in the ward later that night. The only thing is when we invited him, he thought it was an invitation to be baptized himself that night! (He accepted!) We explained to him that he too can be baptized, but that we are going to help him prepare a little bit more before that day!

It feels weird that Christmas is just around the corner, and that I have already been here in Brazil for 5 months! So much has happened and I have grown so much! And I do not want to waste any second here because I already am so sad to leave one day, but until then I know there is a lot in store and I am so excited for it! I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and sing lots of Christmas songs for me!

The one and only (besides my mother),

Sister Pinkney
