First Week of HMTC: Holy Moly
My first week of the Brazil Missionary Training Center (CTM) has been muito bom!
The first person that I got to meet Monday morning was my wonderful companion, Sister Brookes. We got together before class to do our companion study and to quote Sister Brookes, "Holy Moly." She is the best and I already have so much love for her! This past week as we have studied, shared, and talked in Portuguese together I have been strengthened by her amazing faith and testimony.
On Monday, we also had our first class with our teacher Irma Bueno and words can not describe how amazing she is, and how glad I am to have her as my teacher. She brings so much love and brightness to our district and I can not wait to meet her in person.
At the end of her class she had a group of missionaries come in who were leaving for their assigned missions the next day. Every single one of those missionaries was a buzz of excitement, and beaming with joy. They would not stop talking and laughing, which was kind of overwhelming, but they left me with the hope and joy that one day soon I will be with my district in person and feel that same buzz.
Little did I know I would not have to wait to be in person with my district to feel that joy and laughter. Little by little our district has become more open and we have grown closer. Due to some connection issues with our teachers in Brazil there are some times when our district has been left on our own and we have seized these opportunities to talk and get to know each other better.
Yesterday our teacher left Sister Brookes in charge for the last hour of class because the power was going to be turned off in the CTM. We got the work done that we were supposed to, in addition to having some time to fool around together. I already love the members of my district so much. They share experiences that help me to feel the spirit and inspire me. I can not wait to be with them in Brazil and that is only one week away!
My testimony has already been strengthened so much as seeing the Lord helping me study and learn, and feeling the love he has for me. Yesterday we had the opportunity to try bearing our testimonies in Portuguese and I was paired with Elder Jones. He started by giving a testimony he had written down and then translated but after seeing me bear mine just from the Portuguese I already knew he said he was inspired and wanted to try again. The second testimony was much simpler but I could feel the spirit so strongly as he bore testimony of simple truths of the gospel. I know that the Lord is magnifying our efforts and helping us change, learn, and grow.
I am so excited for all that is to come, the good and the bad, and I am so grateful for the experiences that I have already had this week.
With love,
Sister Pinkney
