Arvore Grande: It Is Great to Be a Missionary
Time and time again I am truly humbled and grateful to see the Lord's hands in my life. He has a plan, and he knows so much better than I do what I need.
This week rained a TON. Upon leaving the house within less than a minute we were completely soaked, and the rain was so strong it was hard to see where we were going. That was a small set back to our week but I also love the rain and I am grateful that it cooled things down.
This week we went to teach an older couple that we had found knocking doors. When we arrived their daughter was there with her daughter. We sat down and began to teach about the restauration of the gospel of Jeuss Christ. And as we began you could already feel the spirit in the room. I knew it that moment it would be a powerful lesson. As we taught the spirit grew stronger and stronger and I know everyone in that room felt it. The daughter expressed some doubts and concerns that she had coming from a different religious background, but our member friend who was with us had formally been part of the same religion and she bore a POWERFUL testimony. Lessons like this one are my favorite thing about being a missionary.
This Sunday we also saw a huge miracle. A few months ago we helped a recent convert who had fallen away come back to church. And since then we have been reteaching her the lessons. Her family are all less active members and she is the only who coming to church. But out of nowhere her Mom came to stake conference a few weeks ago and loved it!! We were nervous this Sunday when the recent convert did not come to church, but then she showed up for the other ward meeting with her Mom and nephew. And she worked up the courage to get up and share her testimony (which is a miracle because she is really shy.) We all felt the spirit so strongly and it was amazing to see the spirit working in this woman to help her come back!
We also have another family that we are working with were the Mom and sons are members less active but the Dad is not a member. A while ago we had taught one of the sons but then this son left for college so we hadn't seen him again. This week his parents went to visit him and his mom told us that the son had gone and found the closest chapel to him, and asked his parents to go with him. It is amazing to see these members as the discover the joy of the gospel again!
Our youth are also amazing, and have developed a real spirit for missionary work. This Sunday two of the young men had friends come to our meetings! These friends looked like a companionship of Elders as they sat along side their friends. One of the girls has actually come a few times and has been reading the Book of Mormon! She asked us what she has to do to receive the lessons and when one of the members joked with her about being baptized, she said that she already wants to be baptized. Sadly she is not in our ward so we are working with her to get her Mom's permission to receive the Sisters in her home!
In other news, we moved apartments!! A long time in the making but it has been a huge blessing. Now we are neighbors with some of our favorite members!
Lots of Love,
Sister Pinkney
